What is Life Skills?

Life Skills is a high-impact, high-intensity, diagnostic/prescriptive/instructional school to career reading intervention to teach chronically struggling readers to improve the vocabulary, expressive fluency, reading comprehension and more.

What makes Life Skills unique?

Life Skills is a complete language / literacy intervention that centers on topics that overaged non-readers and special needs students need to know to be successful citizens. It's important that overaged non-readers have age and developmentally appropriate content to learn with. 

Is this program research-based?

The Life Skills program was developed by national reading researcher, Dr. Joe Lockavitch. Dr. Lockavitch has spent the past thirty years of his life creating fast-acting, research-based reading solutions specifically designed for chronically struggling students. Dr. Lockavitch’s methodology is the first to employ the teaching of critical academic vocabulary through connected text that control for the elements crucial to reading success for chronically struggling students: abundant repetition, appropriate sentence structure and meaningful story content. 

Life Skills has been listed as an academic tool by the National Center for Intensive Intervention, was awarded one of the highest scores by the National Center for Response to Intervention, and has been called a “valuable discovery” by the Education Commission of the States.
